03 - Stir in chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, cayenne if using, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
04 - Add tomato paste, water, and cherry tomatoes. Stir well and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes until the mixture thickens and turkey is fully cooked.
05 - Remove from heat. Stir in half the cilantro.
06 - Spoon turkey mixture into lettuce leaves. Top with avocado, extra cilantro, and a squeeze of lime.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • They're genuinely fast enough to make on a weeknight without sacrificing flavor or nutrition.
  • Lettuce wraps feel indulgent and fun, like you're eating with your hands at a casual dinner party.
  • No guilt lingering after you eat because it's actually good for you.
02 -
  • Don't skip the step of letting the spices cook alone in the oil for that full minute—it's the difference between tasting spices and tasting spiced food.
  • Pat your lettuce leaves completely dry after washing, or they'll wilt under the warm filling instead of staying crisp and sturdy.
03 -
  • Use a nonstick skillet and avoid the temptation to stir the turkey constantly—let it sit for a few seconds between stirs so it browns properly instead of just cooking through.
  • If your cherry tomatoes are particularly large, quarter them again so they burst and distribute their juice evenly through the filling.
